Teaneck community mourns 5 family members killed in crash

- Officials have identified the five members of a New Jersey family who were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday in Townsend, Delaware.

Police said the family was riding in a minivan along SR 1 near Townsend when a southbound work truck crossed the median for unknown reasons and hit the northbound minivan and another auto.

The crash decimated the minivan, killing Teaneck resident Audie Trinidad, 61, and his four daughters, Kaitlyn, 20; Danna, 17, and 13-year-old twins Melissa and Allison.

The girls' mother suffered serious injuries in the crash but is expected to survive, police said. Its driver, a 24-year-old man from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Jaffe said on Sunday afternoon that Hubbard and Kern were treated for minor injuries and released from an area hospital; she didn't know Ballocanag's condition.

"For unknown reasons, the F-350 failed to remain in the southbound lanes of travel and exited the roadway, crossing over the grassy median and into the northbound lanes of travel", read a statement shared on the Delaware State Police website by public information officer Melissa Jaffe. When I found out, I just couldn't believe it at first.

Audie Trinidad, who grew up in the Philippines, served in the Navy for seven years after moving to the U.S. in 1987.

"When I called the police, they said, 'Your brother is beyond recognition, ' " he said, holding back tears.

Audie's brother, Danny, also flew from Florida after hearing what happened.

The Trinidad family were on their way home from the beach. Authorities have said the children were not wearing seat belts.

A GoFundMe for the family's funeral arrangements has already raised more than $85,000 of its $100,000 goal.

"They never did anything bad", he said. I don't think she wishes she was alive. The wrong-way driver has been identified as 44-year-old Alvin Hubbard Jr. of Maryland. The pickup truck was hit by the Toyota Sienna minivan carrying the New Jersey family. He received a photo of the family eating blue crabs on July 4. "They're all gone, gone". Their bodies in the morgue are unrecognizable, ' he said.

"They didn't get to grow up and experience life as an adult".
