Timing of Mueller’s Russia Indictment Wasn’t Trolling - Trump Requested It

U.S. President Donald Trump is once again defending his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a day after reversing his acceptance of Putin's denial that Moscow interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

Mr. Trump also tweeted that his critics "HATE the fact that I got along well with President Putin of Russian Federation", claiming that people would "rather go to war than see this", and he coined a name for the sentiment: "It's called Trump Derangement Syndrome".

"We see much of the world threatening to return to a more risky, more brutal, way of doing business", he said. "Big results will come!" he said on Twitter.

At a White House meeting with Republican lawmakers on Tuesday, Trump said that after he reviewed a transcript of his Helsinki remarks, he said he realized he misspoke.

In the Finnish capital, Trump had refused to say he believed United States intelligence agencies over Russia's denials of meddling and delivered no condemnation of Moscow's interference.

National Security Adviser John Bolton, who tends to hold hawkish views against the US's adversaries, also expressed concern but stopped short of pushing for a correction because it would make the president appear weak. "And I think that statement speaks for itself".

Republicans control both chambers of Congress and only the party in power can issue a congressional subpoena.

"My people came to me". "It transpired, in the end, that there would be neither, but that Mr. Putin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, called through Aras [Agalarov] to speak to Mr. Trump and gave his apologies that, due to the tardiness of the King of Holland, he was unable to schedule a meeting for Mr. Trump".

Moments earlier, the usually reserved Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, publicly reassured America's allies in Europe with whom Trump clashed during his frenzied trip last week.

House Republican Mike Turner accused Mr Trump of having damaged American foreign policy by failing to take Russian Federation to task. My people came to me, (director of national intelligence) Dan Coats came to me and some others.

Once order was restored, he said he had been in the dark as to why a storm had swirled around his presidency since his Helsinki summit with Vladimir Putin.

In a press conference, Trump said, "My people came to me... they said they think it's Russian Federation".

"NATO's never been stronger".

Signalling Republicans' own efforts at damage control in the wake of Trump's Helsinki performance, McConnell said there might be a vote on a bill sponsored by Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican, that would create punishments if Russian Federation interferes in the 2018 midterm elections.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., added there is "no question" Russian Federation interfered in the election, citing findings by the American intelligence community but also the House Committee on Intelligence. "Every American should be", Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, said. "Can you imagine if President Kennedy believed Khrushchev when he said there were no missiles in Cuba?" Trump chose before, ultimately putting the issue into the spotlight just 72 hours before the high-stakes meeting, the people said.
