Uber launches 'Spotlight' feature to flag drivers

Uber announced some new tools for tricky pickups today. All one has to do is hold their phone up in the air for the driver to see. "All they have is the pin and the address".

In an effort to improve communication between drivers and riders and minimize pickup cancellations, Uber Canada is rolling out a new suite of tools including the "Spotlight" feature which assigns a unique colour to the driver that also takes over the rider's screen, so they can wave it to help their driver locate them (via TechCrunch). Drivers will receive a message so they know which colour to look for. We're trying to give them more context'.

The company has also added scheduled pickups.

The driver then abruptly pulled over about 10 minutes from their destination and told them to exit the vehicle, claiming he had the "right to deny [them] service", according to Godbey.

Finally, for rides booked in advance for a specific pickup date and time, Uber now guarantees the driver will be there on time. And in case your driver does not show up at the scheduled time, Uber will give you a $10 credit that you can use towards your future trips.

'Now it's even easier to share a tip ("I'm wearing a red jacket"), or send your driver a quick pre-populated update like "be right there" with a single tap.

These features are part of Uber Moving Forward, a campaign focused on demonstrating the ride-sharing services continued changes and focus on product improvements that can best serve users. Rider messages are then read aloud to the driver while they are en route, to ensure they can stay focused on the road.

According to Uber, the beacon has a powerful battery and Bluetooth connection to the Uber driver app, and can last several evenings without charge, while keeping the dashboard area free of cables.
