US has plan to dismantle North Korea nuclear program in year

US intelligence officials believe North Korea has been "deceiving" the USA, saying the Hermit Kingdom was bolstering production for nuclear weapons at "multiple secret sites" in the past few months, a report stated.

Pompeo told reporters the day after the Singapore summit on June 12 that Washington hoped to achieve "major disarmament" by North Korea within Trump's current term, which ends on January 20, 2021. "I think they're very serious about it".

Bruce Klingner, a former Central Intelligence Agency analyst, said, "The observed activity appears inconsistent with a North Korean intent to abandon its nuclear weapons programs".

Bolton said on Sunday that Pompeo would be presenting their one-year plan to the North Koreans soon, but just a few days prior, Pompeo declined to put a timeline on negotiations with Pyongyang.

When grilled by lawmakers about the specifics of the administration's denuclearization plan for North Korea, Pompeo said he was "not prepared to talk about the details of the discussions that are taking place".

Some experts disputed Bolton's optimistic time frame.

"And it's to North Korea's advantage to see these programs dismantled very quickly because then the elimination of sanctions aid by South Korea and Japan and others can all begin to flow". I really believe he means it. Interviewed on NBC's Meet the Press, Lindsey Graham of SC said North Korea would "regret it" if nuclear talks collapsed.

South Korea media reported on Sunday that USA envoy Sung Kim, the American ambassador to the Philippines, met with North Korean officials at the border on Sunday to coordinate an agenda for Pompeo's next visit to North Korea.

China and the U.S. both hope to see the Korean peninsula free of nuclear weapons.

The US intelligence sources - who spoke on condition of anonymity to NBC News in America - believe the communist state is running several secret nuclear sites, whose existence Kim may not even admit to.

Evidence collected since the pair's historic meeting points to secret production facilities and the development of methods to conceal weapons creation - implying Pyongyang is aiming to hide plans to continue its nuclear program from the USA, having made contrary, if ambiguous, commitments to Washington.

The only uranium enrichment facility North Korea has publicly acknowledged is Yongbyon - though reports of secret facilities have surfaced.

Bolton appeared on CBS's "Face the Nation", where he declined to address a Washington Post report that said us officials believe North Korea does not intend to give up its nuclear weapons.

"We're going to try and proceed to implement what the two leaders agreed to in Singapore, but rather than have a series of reports - things are going better things are not going well, they are concealing this, they're not concealing that - really it doesn't serve the objective of advancing the negotiations", Bolton said Sunday.

"There's not any starry-eyed feeling among the group doing this".

NBC News and the Washington Post reported that North Korean attempts to hide nuclear work.
