Warframe coming to Nintendo Switch

Warframe coming to Nintendo Switch

As detailed in a report from Polygon, the popular free-to-play game will soon debut two new expansions while introducing gameplay features like surface-to-space combat.

The Switch version of the game is being developed by Panic Button, a specialised port developer which also worked on Nintendo Switch ports for Doom and Wolfenstein. Details, however, are scant: Neither Digital Extremes nor Panic Button have announced a release date, and neither have they confirmed the heavily-expected full cross-play functionality that will allow Switch players to team up with users on any other platform.

Free-to-play games still have a questionable reputation amongst some players, but Warframe is one game that everyone praises for its fairness and its vast amount of content.

In many ways, Warframe feels like a scaled-down Destiny. The plot is centered around members of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors who were kept in a deep cryogenic slumber for centuries. But the system also owes a lot to a wide selection of independent games that has helped round out the library of available titles between marquee releases.

WWE 2K18, while generally well-received by critics, was universally panned on the Nintendo console, with journalists and consumers reporting major performance and framerate issues as the title struggled on the Switch's limited hardware capabilities (in comparison to PS4, Xbox One and PC). The announcement was made by the game's developer and publisher Digital Extremes at this weekend's TennoCon, an expo dedicated to the fan community.
