Xherdan Shaqiri Set To Be Liverpool's Third Signing Of The Summer

Liverpool are pushing to close the signing of Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri before they leave for their preseason tour overseas.

Following Stoke's relegation to the Championship, the 26-year-old expressed a desire to remain in the Premier League, recently stating it is "no secret" he will leave the bet365 Stadium.

Following their elimination at the hands of Sweden last week, Shaqiri hinted that his new club would be revealed soon and the Telegraph reports that Liverpool have now entered into negotiations with Stoke.

Shaqiri is now on holiday, having helped his country reach the last 16 of the World Cup.

The Swiss' contract at Stoke runs until 2020.

The Reds expect no issues on personal terms with Shaqiri once that is sorted.

The winger, who scored seven goals for the newly-relegated Potters last season, has a release clause of £13.5m.

Shaqiri joined Stoke from Inter Milan in August 2015 for a club record fee of £12m. Liverpool have been trying to reignite a deal despite a hands-off warning issued before the World Cup.

Liverpool have already spent heavily in the transfer market this summer in the shape of midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho and Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen his forward line with a mind to challenging for the Premier League title.
