Apple Boots Alex Jones From iTunes For Hate Speech

USA radio host Alex Jones (C) uses a megaphone to speak to crowds near the Quicken Loans Arena, the venue for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Jones, the founder of InfoWars, is known for spreading far-right conspiracy theories, including saying that the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting was a hoax.

Fans of Infowars radio host Alex Jones have flocked to the Apple App Store to grab what's left of his voice on social media. Dorsey wrote that Twitter will "continue to promote a healthy conversational environment by ensuring tweets aren't artificially amplified".

Spotify, YouTube, and Facebook have all only removed several individual broadcasts by Jones. The decision to completely pull the other shows, including "The Alex Jones Show" and "War Room", represents a broader effort than those made by other companies in recent days to stop disseminating material associated with Jones, whom the Southern Poverty Law Center calls "the most prolific conspiracy theorist in contemporary America".

"This is what serves the public conversation best", he said. "Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming".

Among the conspiracy theories Jones has peddled are charges that the United States government was behind numerous terrorist attacks, including the September 11, 2001 strikes on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Gunman Adam Lanza killed 26 people, including 20 children at the CT school. But with the rise of the internet, Jones has captured viewers from around the world who believe him, no matter how outlandish his claims.

Curiously, Alex Jones hasn't yet commented on the decision via Twitter, another platform where his presence has been somewhat controversial.

Twitter has faced significant user criticism for not punishing accounts spreading neo-Nazi, white supremacist, and other "alt right" views.

InfoWars shot up the charts following censorship of its accounts on most major platforms, which ended with the network being banned from YouTube, Facebook, Apple podcasts, and Spotify.

A former communications director for Twitter, Emily Horne, responded directly to Dorsey on Twitter, disagreeing with the decision not to ban Jones and faulting the company's CEO for appearing to blame the outcry against Twitter on "communications". We'll update this article if we hear back.
