Apple removing apps & in-app purchases from iTunes Affiliate Program

Apple removing apps & in-app purchases from iTunes Affiliate Program

The move, which will come into effect on 1 October, will likely have a large impact on sites that provide editorial reviews of mobile games and other apps.

Apple originally provided a seven percent affiliate rate for apps promoted through the iTunes Affiliate Program, although the company dropped that rate past year to 2.5 percent for in-app purchases, while reconsidering a decision to do the same for app purchases after publishers pushed back on the idea.

Though Apple's App Store Affiliate program will be no more, other affiliates program like music, movies, books, and TV will be available.

Apple plans to end its affiliate program for iOS apps, Mac apps and in-app purchases on October 1, according to an announcement made by the company. In other words, both the iOS and macOS apps will have their own app store in iOS 11 and Mojave respectively.

In January, Apple Music increased commissions for its affiliate base program members. Initially, the program was launched to give affiliates 7% of any app purchase but they dropped the cut to 2.5% in April previous year.

As services like the App Store become a bigger part of Apple's business, the company may want to be less dependent on independent reviewers and focus more on strengthening the business from the inside. With the latest information, the commission is gone completely.

The affiliate marketing program allowed individuals, iOs news sites and publications to link to an app and in return receive revenue from Apple, which the firm took out of its standard 30% iTunes and App Store cut.

As stated, Apple says the program still remains for music, movie, book and TV purchases.
