ATP roundup: Fognini stuns del Potro for Los Cabos title

Del Potro won for the second straight night in the hard-court event after a rest break following a five-set loss to Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Dzumhur has three career victories, taking a grass-court tournament in June in Turkey after breaking through previous year with indoor titles in Moscow and St Petersburg.

Many wondered whether the British No.2 Norrie was going to be able to live with the Italian in the baseline exchanges, and from the beginning, Norrie was doing a good job of it, working his left-handed forehand to perfection and believing in his game, but Fognini really elevated his level in the 3rd game, where he broke for the first time with a sequence of lovely defensive points, which unsettled Norrie from the baseline. He will face Fabio Fogini in the final, the Italian second seed having ended the run of Britain's Cameron Norrie by winning 6-4 6-2 in their semi-final.

Ranked 15th in the world, the 31-year-old Fognini claimed his third title of the year (Bastad, Sao Paulo) and eighth of his career and first ever on hardcourts.

Central to del Potro's chances of success in this match, and any other, is how effectively he is able to bring his forehand into play.

As the top seed, del Potro received a first round bye and thus began his tournament in the round of 16 against American qualifier Marcos Giron.

"Fabio deserved to win". "It was a good week for me", Del Potro said. "I made some mistakes in the end of the set, but then I played a smart game in the tie-break".

"It's unbelievable... He's one of the best players... I took my chances to win and I'm glad to reach another final this season".
