Cabinet minister says 'good chance' Iran will re-negotiate nuclear deal

Cabinet minister says 'good chance' Iran will re-negotiate nuclear deal

Other suspended sanctions that will be reimposed on November 4 will target the energy, shipping and insurance sectors, and the central bank of Iran.

The unilateral withdrawal came despite other parties to the agreement - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the European Union - pleading with Mr Trump not to abandon the pact aimed at blocking Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and highlights the United States leader's go-it-alone style and his distaste for multilateral agreements.

Zarif suggested it was hard to imagine negotiating with Trump after he had torn up the 2015 nuclear deal, on which Iran and world powers had spent the "longest hours in negotiating history".

The stiff economic sanctions ratchet up pressure on the Islamic Republic despite statements of deep dismay from European allies, three months after Trump pulled the US out of the global accord limiting Iran's nuclear activities.

"We are determined to protect European economic operators engaged in legitimate business with Iran", she said in a statement.

"This is an indication of how strongly we feel that the Iranian nuclear weapons program, its ballistic missile program, it's support for terrorism, it's belligerent activity in the Middle East have to stop", Bolton said.

Iran accused the USA of reneging on the nuclear agreement, signed by the Obama administration, and of causing recent Iranian economic unrest.

On Monday, the European Union's diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini said the bloc, as well as Britain, France and Germany, deeply regretted Washington's move.

Trump warned that those who don't wind down their economic ties to Iran "risk severe consequences".

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Iran still can rely on China and Russian Federation to keep its oil and banking sectors afloat.

Mr Rouhani said: "They want to launch psychological warfare against the Iranian nation".

"We are always in favour of diplomacy and talks... but talks need honesty".

Months of uncertainty surrounding the sanctions have already further hurt Iran's economy.

"These actions include re-imposing sanctions on Iran's automotive sector and on its trade in gold and precious metals, as well as sanctions related to the Iranian Rial".

"US hypocrisy knows no bounds", he said.

"They've got to behave like a normal country".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the renewed sanctions as "an important moment for Israel, for the USA, for the region, for the whole world".

He said the U.S. has long designated Iran as the world's foremost state sponsor of terrorism.
