Could Urban Meyer be in hot water?

"We didn't know (if) Urban Meyer (knew) about that in 2009 or not, and he said he did", The Athletic college football Editor-In-Chief Stewart Mandel said on The DA Show. However, Meyer admitted he was unaware of a separate domestic violence incident involving Zach and Courtney Smith from 2015.

Shocking revelations surfaced Monday about Smith and domestic violence.

Meyer said it's not known yet whether or not Brian Hartline, a graduate assistant for Ohio State as of current, will be shifted into a permanent coaching role now that Smith is absent. No charges were filed, but for Meyer to write off the allegations as nothing, especially considering something had already happened in 2009, is a bit alarming. Asked if Smith's firing had anything to do with the allegations becoming public, Meyer acknowledged it was a factor.

"In 2009, Zach was an intern", Meyer told reoprters. "It was a group decision from several people I rely on". His answer to reporters before his main news conference Tuesday makes it seem like he had no idea the investigation even happened.

This is not the first time Smith's name has been linked to domestic violence, as there were allegations against him when he was a coach at Florida.

Meyer said he didn't want to discuss the details about why Smith was sacked now, but he acknowledged that past allegations that had been publicized this week were a factor. Courtney Smith asked for a civil protection order Friday, and her request was granted.

"We care about people as they move forward", Urban Meyer said. The head coach did not elaborate when asked if the media reports of Smith's past influenced the decision. Coaches are giddy to get the season going, brimming with talking points they've had an offseason to marinate.

But Meyer doesn't get to say when we're done, not with this conversation.

"The decision was made, I think the details that I'm obligated to give I gave", Meyer said. And the timing. It wasn't just my decision.

Smith has been at Ohio State since Meyer took over the program in 2012 and was the last remaining original staff member.

"I do understand that it's The Ohio State University and it's bigger than all of us", Meyer said at Big Ten Media Days on Tuesday.

"And then this recent one was you press pause, it's something our team lives by, E + R = O, you press pause and get your mind right and step up, press pause and gather information, get your mind right, gather energy, and then step up to do the right thing". I try to stay focused on what's the most important thing.

Meyer declined to say specifically whether the alleged actions, or the fact that they became public, were the motivation for firing Smith. Either Heeke admits that, yeah, Tate did undermine his hiring, or that he was prepared to move forward against his quarterback's wishes.
