Danny Boyle exits James Bond film

After Sam Mendes, who directed both Skyfall and Spectre, stated in 2016 that he would not be returning to direct Bond 25, Sony Pictures began looking for a suitable replacement. Wilson and Broccoli are the film's producers.

MGM and Annapurna Pictures had dated the film for November 8, 2019, with Universal handling global rights. MGM and EON Productions plan to release it in the United States two weeks later.

The pair worked together on two Trainspotting movies, in 1996 and 2017, and The Beach, starring Leonardo di Caprio.

Boyle and his regular collaborator John Hodge were working on the script. What is even more fascinating is that Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the screenwriters who had written all of Daniel Craig's previous Bond films, had already done a a draft for this film that was dropped in favor of Boyle and Hodge's script. He had always been in MGM and Eon's sights to board a James Bond movie, dating back to 2012's "Skyfall" and 2015's "Spectre".

More as we have it.

The son of West African immigrants fueled speculation earlier in August that he could be named the first black James Bond, with a cryptic tweet. Evidently, their plan backfired as Sony and Boyle have now parted ways, citing "creative differences".
