The new Charge 3 is said to carry the same essence of the series, but with a new premium swimwear design, bigger touchscreen display, better battery life, and some of Fitbit's most advanced sensors and algorithm technology. There's also advanced sleep tracking on the Fitbit Charge 3, with Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights, so you can see how long you've been in deep sleep and REM sleep.

Goal-based exercise modes: Choose from 15+ exercise modes like bike, swim, run, weights and yoga; set a goal for calories burned, distance or duration, and see real-time stats, progress and celebrations on the device when you reach your goal.

Animations and expressive graphics will play in grayscale to drive engagement with the device through fun milestone celebrations on a screen that will be 40 larger and brighter than the previous generation. IDC estimates shipments of fitness trackers will continue to comprise a significant portion of the overall category for the next several years. The Charge 3 is waterproof to 5ATM meaning you can swim while it detects laps and your pace.

Market research firm IDC noted in June that Fitbit had a hard first quarter and that its market share dropped to 8.7% compared to 12.2% a year ago.

Finally, lets not forget the Female Health Tracking functionality. Coming to the battery life, the Fitbit Charge 3 can last up to seven days on a single charge.

The Charge 3 can now be pre-ordered at prices ranging from Dollars 150 to USD 170 but won't ship until October in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the following month in Asia Pacific. The company is also bringing accessories bands, with the Classic Band priced at Rs 2,990, Woven Band priced at Rs 3,490 and Leather Band at Rs 4,490.

It's touting a "swimproof" design too, which Fibit says makes it water-resistant for up to 50 metres, although a recommended time for use is not listed.

Fitbit's Charge family is the most popular of Fitbit's product lineup, with 35 million devices sold to date.

The Fitbit Charge 3 is going up for pre-sale today on Fitbit.com, and will open up for pre-orders with select retailers tomorrow for $149. A special-edition version - which comes with an extra band and Fitbit Pay, Fitbit's NFC payments system - will cost $169.95.

Fitbit likewise asserts that the SpO2 heart rate sensor on the Charge 3 provides a more precise heart rate and sleep tracking. According to Fitbit, the Charge 3 will handle just about any notification your phone can toss at it. Calls, texts, emails, and even notifications that your shared ride is outside. The reasons cited were "slimmer design, easy-to-use features, streamlined experience, and price point". The tracker is now available in black with a graphite aluminum case or blue gray with a rose gold aluminum case.
