Since, however, inclinations that Elba might be the first non-white Bond have subsided, until recently.

The discussion over who could play the next James Bond could be nearing it's conclusion, as the biggest clue yet has been dropped over the next actor's identity. Whether it's a tortured detective in Luther, an all-seeing demi-god, Heimdall, in Thor series, or even portraying Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom, Elba is one of Hollywood's hottest commodity.

According to reports in The Independent, producer Barbara Broccoli has hinted the door is open for a black Agent 007 in the future.

Elba, 45, was rumored to be the next James Bond in 2014 following the hack into Sony Pictures' emails.

"It is will happen eventually."

'Idris could do it if he was in shape, ' she revealed. You need a guy with a physically strong presence.

He did, however, say it was up to the studio whether he would be a fit for the role, and in 2015 commented he would "absolutely" become Bond if asked. And after years of fan demand, it appears that Elba may finally have to start ordering his martini's shaken, not stirred.

The next Bond is being directed by Danny Boyle and is scheduled to be out in cinemas towards the back end of 2019. Bond 25 is being produced by Eon Productions with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson producing.

Bond 25 isn't set to arrive until October of next year, so it would seem unlikely that we'll get any official news on Craig's successor prior to then.
