Kasey Kahne Reveals 2018 will be his Last Full-Time Season

This will be Kasey Kahne's last season as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver.

The 38-year-old now drives for Leavine Family Racing and was set to be a free agent at the end of year.

"I've thought about this decision for many months, if not longer", Kahne tweeted Thursday.

Longtime NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler is stepping away from racing full-time in 2018. "I'm not sure what the future holds for me, but I know I'm at ease with the decision I have made".

Kahne is 28th in the points standings, and his best finish this year was fourth at Daytona in July. "I need to spend more time doing the things I enjoy and love and that's spending time with (son) Tanner and my sprint auto teams". Racing in Cup full time for a few more years was just something that I couldn't commit to.

Kasey Kahne surprised the motorsports community on Thursday by taking to social media to announce his retirement from full-time NASCAR competition.

Hendrick released Kahne after last season, and he moved to the single-car Leavine operation.

Sadler is 43 and now drives for JR Motorsports in the second-tier Xfinity Series.

Kahne was once one of NASCAR's rising stars and has had a successful career overall, earning 18 Cup wins over 15 seasons. That win came amid speculation that Hendrick would part ways with Kahne following six seasons, and Hendrick made it official two weeks later.

The 2004 Rookie of the Year is coming off a playoff appearance in 2017 and has put together an impressive resume over 527 career Cup starts.
