Man City ace David Silva announces worldwide retirement: We'll never forget Aragones

Manchester City's Spain midfielder David Silva has announced his retirement from worldwide football.

He joins the likes of former Barcelona star Andreas Iniesta and defender Gerard Pique who also recently announced their retirement from global duty.

The playmaker helped La Roja lift their first World Cup title in 2010, and also played a part in back-to-back European Championship triumphs in 2008 and 2012.

Silva made his worldwide debut in November 2006 and went on to amass 125 caps over the course of 12 years, scoring 35 times for La Roja, a total that places him fourth on the all-time list for his country behind Fernando Torres, Raúl and David Villa.

"There have been days and weeks of reflection and analysis to make the decision to finish my time in the Spain national team".

In his farewell post, Silva wrote: "This has not been an easy decision but after days and weeks of reflection I have chose to retire from the Spain national team". Without a doubt it is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to take and I say it from humility and gratitude.

"The national team has given me everything and allowed me to grow as a footballer and person since (playing in) the youth categories".

David Silva has scored 35 goals in 125 games for Spain.

"I leave happy with what (I) achieved". And, of course, I wish to thank all the fans who shared their support and respect everytime I wore the Spain jersey.

'Thank you, good luck and farewell!'
