NASCAR CEO Brian France charged with DWI in NY, police say

NASCAR CEO Brian France was arrested Sunday and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop in NY. He was arraigned Monday at Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and released.

The 56-year-old France was stopped in Sag Harbor, N.Y., after blowing a stop sign, then failed a field sobriety test before officers discovered oxycodone pills while searching him.

France was arrested and held overnight for his arraignment Monday morning.

During the traffic stop, police determined France was operating his vehicle "in an intoxicated condition, Drake said".

He even reportedly name-dropped President Donald Trump according to TMZ Sports and his blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit. France took on the mantle in 2003.

At this time, neither France nor NASCAR appear to have commented on the arrest.

"We are aware of an incident that occurred last night and are in the process of gathering information". His grandfather William HG France founded the organisation, while his father, Bill Jr, also served as CEO until he stepped down in 2000.

That arrest sounds very straightforward, for all intents and purposes, but TMZ, who first broke the news, had other details.
