PANIC in Venezuela as 'EXPLOSION' hits during speech by President Maduro

Several drone-like devices with explosives detonated near Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro while he was giving a speech in the capital of Caracas during a celebration of the National Guard's 81st anniversary. The CBS News report describes Venezuelan First Lady Cilia Flores being shown to "wince" on the video.

In footage on local TV, while Maduro was speaking about Venezuela's economy the audio suddenly went. His speech ended abruptly, and the broadcast then panned to the face of a young soldier before focusing on the street in front of makeshift stand where Mr.

The president and his fellow government officials escaped the assassination attempt unharmed in what Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said was an "attempted attack" against the leftist leader.

The cameras then turned to a wide shot of military officers standing at attention in neat lines as they broke rank and began running.

No group has said it was behind the alleged assassination attempt.

"The people are with the president", Rodriguez said.
