Petition pushes for LeBron James to replace Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos

Now, thousands are petitioning for LeBron James to take over education in the United States. More than 16,000 people have signed the plea, which was published to the Care2 Petitions website less than two weeks after the new Los Angeles Laker opened a public school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio for at-risk third and fourth graders.

"LeBron James is an inspiration to kids all over the country", the petition reads.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 4,240 people had signed the petition.

LeBron recently opened his I PROMISE school in Akron, calling it one of the best days in his life.

"Betsy DeVos was hired without ever setting foot in a public school - and she's taken every opportunity to work against the interests of the children, teachers, and families she has pledged to serve", the petition says. He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do. "I like Mike!" Trump tweeted in reaction to James' interview.

The U.S. Secretary of Education is appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

US First Lady Melania Trump was among those who later supported James, praising him for opening the school and adding that the player "is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation". 'If that's stupid, I wonder what he'd call Betsy DeVos for doing absolutely nothing for schools and children across America'. The school triggered lawsuits amid accusations of fraud. But it can be seen as a new statement of discontent by critics of the Trump administration and DeVos, who has always been a detractor of US public schools and who once called them a "dead end".
