Ruby Rose to play Batwoman for The CW's Arrowverse

Last month, it was reported that a standalone Batwoman show was in development at The CW, following the character's upcoming debut in the network's annual DC Crossover Event this fall. Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) is writing the script and executive producing the series. Batwoman already has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in comics.

News broke in July that creators of the new Batwoman series - which were hoping to cast an out gay actor in the title role.

"Ruby Rose is Batwoman, coming to The CW's crossover event this December!" Striking fear into the criminals she fights, Kate is someone who must also fight the complications of living a double life, both as a citizen and hero of Gotham.

Batwoman was originally introduced by DC in 1956 as Kathy Kane, a love interest for Batman.

Batwoman is coming to The CW and the role will be played by Ruby Rose, Just Jared can confirm!

She has also appeared in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Resident Evil: Final Chapter, John Wick: Chapter Two, and Pitch Perfect 3. We're eager to see her take on the character, and hopefully see her shine in her own series soon. She also starred in the film, which became a viral hit, and was awarded with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 2016 GLAAD Media Awards. She was one of the first vigilantes to make up the "Batman Family".

With such a long career in comics, Batwoman will certainly make a great addition to the Arrowverse as the DC TV universe prepares to explore Gotham City. Adding to that, DC Comics describes her as having "self-destructive tendencies when it comes to personal relationships". Though, honestly, I don't know where Doc Wertham could've gotten the idea that a single bachelor and his practically-adult ward-spending their nights traipsing around in tights and carousing with flamboyant men wearing more makeup than the Gabor sisters-were anything more than friends. "Ruby Rose is too famous to star in a CW show and casting her is actually homophobic".
