Samsung marries new Galaxy Tab S4 with DeX for productivity boost

Samsung marries new Galaxy Tab S4 with DeX for productivity boost

"Obviously aiming for the iPad Pro, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 comes with a 10.5" WQXGA display.

There's a charging dock (which connects via pogo pins on the side of the tablet), and a number of accessories like the Book Cover which clips around the tablet and gives you a keyboard with which to work.

The new Tab S4 will be available for purchase on August 10th starting at £599.99 for the WiFi enabled model, which is the same figure as Apple's 10.5-inch iPad Pro and in a similar ball park to Microsoft Surface. It has a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution which works out at 287ppi.

The reduced bezel on the front of the device comes at the cost of a fingerprint scanner - the Tab S4 doesn't have one.

The overall tablet market has been in decline but tablets catering to professionals and the enterprise has been increasing, Samsung officials told ZDNet.

Here is everything you need to know about Samsung's new Tab S4 tablet.

It has a Super-AMOLED (sAMOLED) 2560×1600/287 PPI display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the one that was inside 2017 high-end smartphones.

If you are interested in note taking or drawing, then you will love the S Pen that comes with the Tab S4.

For folks fearless enough to take photos and videos with a giant slate, Samsung equips the Tab S4 with a 13-MP world-facing camera plus an 8-MP front-facing camera. Both tablets have quad speakers, and both support Dolby Atmos immersive sound, but the Tab S4 takes things one step further by being tuned by AKG.

Samsung also offers up to 400GB of microSD storage as well, but you'll have to buy a separate card for that. The Galaxy Tab S4 also ships with new features such as Samsung Flow and SmartThings app that will make it easier to manage your connected devices. Additionally, it's most notable feature is when paired with docking station Samsung DeX (sold separately), offering users a PC-like experience that allows them to multi-task. The device's main claim to fame is a software mode called "Dex" that turns the S4's interface into a desktop-like version of Android, giving users the ability to drag, resize, or minimize app windows at will.

But my big question is why Samsung didn't just go with something like Chrome OS? The Tab S4 can be changed to a photo album, calendar, or clock via its Daily Board feature.

Obviously given the hour (the reveal happened at 1am local time), we're not expecting to get local pricing and availability just yet - but we've approached Samsung's Australian representatives and will update when we have information.
