The name's Elba, Idris Elba

The name's Elba, Idris Elba

Elba, 45, has previously said he thought he might be too old to play the legendary secret agent.

Idris Elba has given a cryptic and playful update after a week of renewed speculation about him becoming the next James Bond. The first was a heavily filtered selfie of the top half of his head with the caption, "my name is Elba, Idris Elba".

The actor who is known for his role in The Wire took to Twitter and wrote, "My name's Elba, Idris Elba".

Fans were obviously freaking out, as this is the biggest tease Elba might be stepping into the iconic role yet.

The latest slew of Elba-Bond rumors comes after a report in the United Kingdom tabloid The Daily Star, which quoted director Antoine Fuqua as saying that Elba was, yet again, in the running for the role.

Well, Elba followed that up a few hours later with another post simply telling fans "Don't believe the HYPE".

"Luther" star Idris Elba is reportedly in the running to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond in the next 007 film. She was apparently even certain that "it will happen eventually". You need a guy with a physically strong presence.

Production on the 25th Bond film, led by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, will begin in December.

When asked about the reported comments, a spokesperson for Fuqua told CNN, "This is not accurate".
