Toto Covered Weezer's 'Hash Pipe' and It's awesome

Weezer released their version of "Africa" in May following a long-running fan campaign trying to convince the band to cover the much-memed '80s hit. On Monday night (July 30) during a show in Vancouver B.C., the rockers returned the favor and covered Weezer's "Hash Pipe".

"It was just an absurd joke".

Earlier this week, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather announced that Toto, after considering a bunch of Weezer songs, had settled on the 2001 single "Hash Pipe", the first thing that Weezer released after their post-Pinkerton hiatus. "I'm not condoning this sort of behaviour - but we were young once". We wanted to make it different, but we wanted to do something rock "n" roll.

"The song we picked to do is Hash Pipe".

Now, while kicking off their recent tour in Vancouver, Toto delivered a live version of the track to the rapturous applause from an eager audience.

"We figured since we were smoking hash before they were born, that was the one we should do", one of the band members said. "This is our tribute to Weezer, God bless and thank them, and see what you think of our version of their song".
