Trump calls on Attorney General to shut down Mueller's Russian Federation investigation

Donald Trump appeared to order his attorney general Jeff Sessions to pull the plug "right now" on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation with a tweet on Wednesday morning.

President Trump has had plenty to say on Twitter about Attorney General Jeff Sessions; on Wednesday, he had something to say to him.

Trump's tweets comes after the president denied Tuesday there was any "collusion" between his presidential campaign and Russian Federation, and declared that "collusion is not a crime" anyway.

Trump called any talk of collusion "a Hoax". "Because Paul Manafort worked for Donald Trump".

Jens David Ohlin, a law professor at Cornell University, said the tweets would likely not be seen as an order to Sessions, but as "Trump venting his continued frustration with the fact that he can't control the Russian Federation investigation". This as the White House works hard to impress upon the press distinction between the Russian Federation election tamper probe and the Manafort trial.

Reaction from Democrats to the president's tweet was swift.

"I don't know why Rudy seemed to think that obstruction by tweet is a insane notion", Rodgers said. As a result, he fired off a fresh round of attacks on Mueller's credibility, and called for Attorney General Jeff SessionsJefferson (Jeff) Beauregard SessionsRetired judges protesting DOJ's involvement in deportation case The Hill's Morning Report - Trump stirs GOP midterm angst with talk of shutdown Clinton maxes out to 19 Democratic House candidates MORE to end the investigation.

Mr Trump also said Mr Manafort was being treated worse than the Prohibition-era Chicago mobster Al Capone.

The special prosecutor is also investigating a potential obstruction of justice by the president.

U.S. attorneys are prosecuting Manafort for allegedly failing to pay taxes on millions he made from his work for a Russia-friendly Ukrainian political party, and then lying to get loans when the cash stopped coming in.

But Sessions stepped aside previous year from overseeing Mueller's inquiry, and it's Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who's taken over that duty. "The president is not obstructing".

Trump brought up Manafort by name in a second tweet on Wednesday, saying that he has worked in the past for "highly prominent and respected political leaders", and that the charges against him "have nothing to do with Collusion", which he referred to as "a Hoax!". She insisted the president's tweets are an "opinion" - but not an order. Current lead attorney, Rudy Giuliani, told ABC News a week ago that his team had submitted a response to Mueller asking to limit the scope of an interview with Trump especially as it relates to obstruction of justice.

Manafort was the campaign chairman for about five months in 2016.

The ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee Rep. Adam Schiff said Mr. Trump's tweet was "an attempt to obstruct justice hiding in plain sight".
