UAB Hospital again highly ranked by US News & World Report

For the seventh consecutive year, UT Medical Center was named in the "Best Hospitals" edition of U.S. News and World Report. Local hospitals didn't make the national rankings by specialty.

Duke University Hospital has again emerged as the top hospital in North Carolina for complex medical conditions, and one of only two in the Southeast in the national top 20, according to the latest national hospital ranking by U.S. News & World Report.

For pediatric care, the following specialties at MUSC ranked among the top 50 in the country: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology, orthopedics and urology.

The University of Tennessee Medical Center continued its history of national distinction. MMC also was recognized as "high performing" in the specialty of urology and in eight common procedures and conditions included in the annual survey of US hospitals.

Maine Medical Center in Portland, Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and Mercy Hospital of Portland were rated the best.

Morton Plant Hospital gained top-five procedure recognition as well, ranking fourth in Florida in performing aortic valve surgeries, and fifth in both heart bypass and lung cancer surgeries.

"By providing the most comprehensive data available on almost every hospital across the United States, we give patients, families and physicians information to support their search for the best care across a range of procedures, conditions and specialties", said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News, in a news release.

UC Davis was the only Sacramento-area hospital to be ranked among the top 50 USA hospitals when it comes to complex specialty care.

One of the top three hospitals in Tennessee is located in the Scenic City, according to US News & World Report. Princeton Health, which joined Penn Medicine in early 2018, was ranked #10 in New Jersey and #20 in the New York Metro Area.

The big mover on the state list was U of C Medical Center, which rose in IL from eighth. The organization also pulled together physician surveys and patient survival rates as well as quality, safety and patient-to-provider ratios to determine the final rankings.

In addition to Chester County Hospital, all other Penn Medicine hospitals also netted honors: Lancaster General Health (LGH) was ranked #6 in the state. "These achievements are a direct result of the exceptional health care our nurses, physicians and employees provide our patients every single day".
