US PGA Championship - Story of the final round

Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson and Rickie Fowler qualified on points after the PGA Championship ended Sunday.

It would be the second time he plays the Ryder Cup as a captain's pick. His last pick will be made September 10 after the BMW Championship, the third playoffs event the following week.

"What's important is how well Tiger has played", Furyk said. That 18 months has flown by in some respects, and it feels like it has taken forever in others.

"I wanted guys who really enjoy that atmosphere, and these eight guys, when I look at them, they're guys that enjoy that challenge. They bring a lot to the table". But he answered with four solid rounds at Bellerive, capped by a 69 Sunday that left him with a top-20 finish, while closest pursuers Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson missed the cut.

Prevailing wisdom says Woods has done enough to make the team, although Furyk would not commit to that decision Monday.

"It's a good question". "He's playing very well".

Whether he plays or not, Woods is set to be a vice captain on the USA team.

Woods has already been named as a vice captain for the United States defence of the Ryder Cup in France next month, but his claims to be there in a playing capacity are now overwhelming. His game ... I think the word he used is "trending".

"Except for my team, everybody was rooting for Tiger", said Koepka."It kind of pushes you to step up your game".

"I didn't think he had a hope in hell of winning another major and now you have to say he does", Faldo said.

"The reason we put this system into place is to identify hot players, identify guys who are playing well right now who can help this team". We'll all sit down and give him our input, who can contribute.

Brooks Koepka this year achieved something only Curtis Strange and Ben Hogan have managed since the World War II and won consecutive US Opens.

"I still think you want to be able to weave the four captain's picks into the framework of the eight that we have, but you could pick two guys who paired very well as captain's picks as well", Furyk said.

Furyk has toured Le Golf National significantly over the past year, and believes it's a course that suits a certain style of player - although he declined to specify what type of player that is.

As much as the story of the day was Koepka, the drama, as it did for so much of the last day at Carnoustie, came from Woods. Both played the first two rounds of the PGA with Furyk, and rallied to make the cut after poor starts.

"We look forward on capitalizing on that".

Despite the long lines for shuttles, parking issues, and cellphone service problems during the week, organizers said St. Louis won big overall. It's great to see him playing well.

"I'm looking at pairings, who fits in well with these eight players". He's got deft touch and a pure putting stroke, but is more about overpowering golf courses than overthinking them. "This was the first real Tiger effect I've experienced with that many people".

The Ryder Cup follows immediately afterwards. He has to jump another fourteen places in the standings and break into the top 125 to secure his PGA Tour card for next season. Ian Poulter, who tied for 31st at Bellerive, moved ahead of Paul Casey on Europe's world points list.

The U.S. team won the most recent Ryder Cup series 17-11 in 2016 at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minn.
