Why Tim Allen's 'Last Man Standing' Won't Be Like the 'Roseanne' Revival

"I think the guy is kind of a centrist", Allen - the star of Fox's sitcom revival, debuting this fall - told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday. "I think the [character's] a conservative Republican with those ideals. He probably doesn't defend him", Allen said of his character's political perspective. In a recent video statement published to YouTube, Barr accused her former network of firing her over her support for President Donald Trump.

Abbot also teased that introducing a child who's used to a different political system will obviously cause some interesting conflicts for a man as opinionated as Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), so we've got that to look forward to!

"He's a character with a conservative viewpoint", Newman acknowledged, but added that he thinks of the character as having a "fairly centrist viewpoint".

Not too long after Allen's sitcom was canceled, he went on Norm McDonald Live to say: 'There is nothing more unsafe, especially in this climate than a amusing, likable conservative character.

Last Man Standing, revived by Fox one year after ABC canceled the series, centers on Mike Baxter (Allen), a conservative sporting goods entrepreneur whose traditional values often clash with his close friends and family.

"When I heard the offer to create more episodes of Last Man Standing, I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out".

Newman said ABC canceled Last Man Standing, despite its ratings success, because that network wanted to program Friday nights with programming it produces; Last Man Standing is Fox-produced.

The actor, who went on to say that "it's a very icy time", added that in his 38-year span of being a comedian, he has "never seen it". "I don't believe that it was, I believe it was a financial decision on ABC's part. I think that it was too early and we're here because of it".

Back in May, Allen revealed to ET that Last Man Standing picks things up in real time, about a year or so after the events of the finale. Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Eve Baxter, will continue to recur.

After the panel, Allen defended Barr, whose Twitter tirade led to the show's axing. It's gonna be a better show because of all you people that did this and I just hope we. "We will deliver for you".

The show will premiere on Fox on September 28.
