Anthony Travalgia - Bruins trade Adam McQuaid to the New York Rangers

The Boston Bruins moved on from one of their longer-tenured players, trading defenseman Adam McQuaid to the New York Rangers on Tuesday.

"Very hard day for me personally, and the organization as well", said Sweeney, whose first Hockey Operations position was as Director of Player Development in 2006-07 - the same year McQuaid arrived in the organization via a trade with the Blue Jackets, who had drafted him in Round 2 (No. 55 overall) in 2005.

The 31-year-old was limited to just 38 games this past season, putting up one goal and three assists.

The six-foot-four, 212-pound defenceman recorded 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points with 652 penalty minutes in 462 games.

A native of Ann Arbor, MI, Kampfer has played in 166 career National Hockey League contests over five National Hockey League seasons with the Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers and Rangers.

The 6-4 McQuaid, who has one year at $2.75 million remaining on his deal, brings a physical element to the Ranger defense that has been lacking for years in that area. The Bruins won the Stanley Cup that season.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney made the announcement Tuesday morning. Sad to see you go Quaider and all the best in NY.

Entering the upcoming season, Boston already had three right-handed defenseman in their starting lineup (Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo and Kevan Miller), which made it hard to envision McQuaid seeing much playing time.

"It's a very hard day, we want to thank Adam", general manager Don Sweeney said Tuesday morning.

However, the soon-to-be-32-year-old veteran has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career and had likely been bumped down to eighth defenseman status after the Bruins acquired John Moore this offseason. "10 years we've been together, going back to Providence".
