Claire Wineland (1997 - 2018), inspiring speaker lived with cystic fibrosis

Claire Wineland (1997 - 2018), inspiring speaker lived with cystic fibrosis

Wineland had a big following on various social media platforms, including Instagram and YouTube.

26 Aug Claire has gone through a successful lung transplant, but a week later had a seizure and she died.

Wineland's family will continue to advance the work of Claire's Place, which supports families of those living with cystic fibrosis.

Wineland became known for sharing her journey of cystic fibrosis online, a genetic condition that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system that can result in breathing problems, an increased risk of lung infections and reduced function of the lungs.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Claire's Place Foundation said: "Our inspirational founder passed away". "She [Claire] was not in any pain and the medical staff said it was the most peaceful passing they had ever witnessed", Claire's foundation, Claire's Place, confirmed via Facebook on September 3. "She was surrounded by love and with her mother, Melissa Yeager, and father, John Wineland". After defying multiple life-expectancies of 10-, 15-, and 18-years-old, Wineland initially decided not to seek out a lung transplant after becoming a legal adult, an operation that can significantly prolong the life of someone with CF. And every single time I get close to that point where I'm supposed to die, there's a new technology that comes out, a new medicine, new ways of treating cystic fibrosis.

Mortality and life were subjects Wineland liked to explore in her social media posts and videos, although a good number were devoted to other kinds of fun. In recent months, the 21-year-old's health had taken a dramatic downward turn, prompting Wineland to opt for a double-lung transplant.

The stroke caused blood circulation to the right side of her brain to be cut off and she was placed in a medically induced coma.

"Your prayers, support and encouraging words, have been a huge source of strength for her and her family", she said. "It's not like we walk around like dogs with our tails between our legs all the time". "The years of telling myself I can do it on my own are over". I do not want to fight for a life that consists only of self care, I would rather die than live just for the sake of living.

The Claire's Place Foundation said her organs were being made available for transplant. When she was 12 I tutored her...often times at the hospital.

Throughout her life, Wineland tried not to take herself too seriously, joking in videos about the absurdities swirling around her - like people stopping her at Whole Foods to tell her eating more pineapple or doing a mushroom cleanse would cure her, according to CNN.
