First 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' Trailer Highlights the Creepiest Birthday Party Ever

It's here! The trailer for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has dropped, and it is... actually way creepier than expected. Sabrina Spellman is turning 16, but for this young witch, her birthday festivities seem to be much different from your traditional sweet 16.

Kiernan Shipka of Mad Men stars as Sabrina, and the first clip shows her celebrating her (very sinister-looking) 16th birthday. A new trailer for the show was released online, and its haunting tone is a refreshing twist on the Archie Comics character.

It shows her kissing her boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle (played by Ross Lynch), just as three hair-raising women with ghoulish faces emerge from a cave.

For those who are unfamiliar with this version of Sabrina from the comic books, Netflix explains that this show will be "a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft". Sabrina must contend with her identity as a half-mortal and a half-witch while confronting evil forces that threaten her and her family.

The trailer begins with an eerie rendition of "Happy Birthday", interspersing shots of Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) living her normal life as a high school student along with her supernatural life as a witch.

No word whether we'll be seeing Sabrina's father, Edward Spellman, this season - but I'm guessing he'll either be a surprise or not revealed until season two. Aguirre-Sacasa is also penning and producing the Netflix series, so if you want a head start on what you can expect from this live-action retelling of a retelling, I highly suggest you check it out.
