JUST IN: Conflicting Reports Trails Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun Resignation

The media aide to the former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the report that the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun resigned from her position. The President thanked the Minister for her services to the nation and wished her well in her future pursuits.

Sources quoted her as saying, she had to go because the alleged forgery of her National Youth Service Corps Certificate made her position as Minister untenable.

The change is unlikely to have an impact on economic policies in Africa's biggest oil producer, which is recovering from an economic slump in 2016 and holding general elections early next year, according to Malte Liewerscheidt, vice president of the risk advisory group Teneo Intelligence.

Adeosun who was schooled and graduated overseas at 22, did not return to Nigeria until she was 34 and did not serve the mandatory one year.

Nigeria's Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun attends the 2018 Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Abuja, Nigeria July 13, 2018.

But she has come under pressure in recent weeks since an independent online newspaper, Premium Times, accused her of obtaining a fake exemption certificate from the NYSC. No Nigerian can hold public office without doing the service or presenting an exemption certificate. Contributions of 200 words or more will be considered for publication.
