Majority of Voters Say They Do Not Want Congress to Impeach Trump

The lowest was noted in the Gallup poll, with an approval rating of 41 percent, a drop of just one point from its previous poll. The results were based on the surveys of 1,038 voters and had a margin of error of 3.7 points.

The shift is particularly acute in the US Midwest, where Democrats have enjoyed a 13-point swing in their direction since July, according to the poll.

A majority of voters do not support beginning impeachment proceedings against President Trump, according to a new poll released Wednesday that also found that House Democrats have expanded their lead over Republicans in a generic ballot test less than two months out from the midterm elections.

Instead, the president is repeatedly muddling that message with easily debunked falsehoods or hyperbole about the state of the economy while pressing on with unpopular trade wars that frustrate establishment Republicans and business groups anxious about price increases.

A majority give Mr. Trump poor marks for leadership, say he's "not level-headed" nor does he care about average Americans, and 55 percent say he's "not fit" to serve as president. In CNN's poll, only 32 percent of adults said Trump is honest and trustworthy, a new low in CNN's polling.

Democrats hold a slim lead over Republicans on a poll of USA adults' preferences for which party they want controlling the House after November's midterm elections.

According to a The Washington Post-ABC News poll, Trump's disapproval rating has risen 4% since the last survey in April - to 60%.

The belief among voters that the president is not intelligent squares with claims made by two recent books, Unhinged by former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman and Fear by Watergate reporter Bob Woodward. The Real Clear Politics average this week puts Democrats ahead of Republicans by a margin of 47 percent to 39 percent.
