More To Blame Than Mary Jane As Musk Inhales Tesla's Woes

At the moment, anyone ordering a new Tesla can choose from seven different color options. Praised by reviewers, but subject to production delays and reports of inconsistent quality, the vehicle has put pressure on Tesla to prove it can transition from a luxury automaker to a mass-market one.

Telsa, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) has been all over the news these past few months, as the company has experienced waves of instability and erratic behavior from Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk.

Which sentiment comes closer to matching the reality of Tesla's third-quarter performance will go a long way toward determining whether 2018 is viewed as a triumph over adversity or the result of hubris and poor decision-making.

That being said, the Nomura Instinet analyst remains optimistic about the progress that Tesla as a company has accomplished with the Model 3 production ramp. Tesla has said the Semi will begin production in 2019, but has yet to announce where it'll be produced.

In what could only be described as a dash of irony, Tesla recently received an optimistic outlook from a longtime critic as well.

Tesla declined a request for comment on this story.

Analysts on Friday reiterated their call for Tesla to bring in another senior leader. His leaving reflects "the intensity of (Tesla's) work custom, and is no longer indicative of concerns with fundamentals or monetary reporting", the Baird analysts, led by Ben Kallo, acknowledged.

More than 400,000 people are on a waiting list to buy a Tesla; some have been waiting since March 2016, when the company first started taking orders.

Quality is more important than speedIn the near term, Tesla is going to focus on the more profitable models, Acevedo said. While the brand name and strong public interest will keep supporting Tesla stock, value investors should look elsewhere.

The former employee said Musk's prediction that production and deliveries will more than double was realistic and one current employee said Musk's optimism was reflected among the employee's colleagues.

With less than three weeks before the end of September, Tesla is now in full throttle as it attempts to reach its target of producing a total of 50,000-55,000 Model 3 this quarter.

The $35,000 Model 3 will reach new customers for Tesla, some of whom won't own multiple vehicles.

"I think quality has to be their top priority", he said.
