Nolte: Bob Woodward Amps Up Scare Tactics to Hype Book

An anonymous op-ed detailing President Donald Trump's erratic behavior, printed in the New York Times last week, set off speculation regarding which Trump administration senior official may have penned the piece-but a government watchdog on Monday said the op-ed is mainly noteworthy not for the palace intrigue described within but because it gives lawmakers more than enough reason to investigate Trump's alleged abdication of his duty to preside over the country. Porter, who left the White House in February after two ex-wives leveled abuse allegations against him, is mentioned repeatedly in Woodward's book.

Woodward has defended his portrayal of Donald Trump as an unfit president whose aides intervened to prevent catastrophic decisions, as he kicked off appearances to promote his bombshell new book. But Trump backed down once the initial news reports, which said the subpoenas were aimed at Trump's and his family's dealings with the bank, were inaccurate. US President further said that if he had spoken like that then he wouldn't had become the US President. But she ruled out the possibility that lie detector tests would be used in the search, as pro-Trump senator Rand Paul has suggested and vice-president Mike Pence volunteered to undergo.

Asked later whether the White House would list all the things in Woodward's book that are wrong, Sanders said such an exercise "would be a complete and utter waste of our time, so no". "I don't talk the way I am quoted". Colbert asked Woodward, and he said "not knowing" what's going on in the Oval Office or Trump's head.

On the substance of Trump's record, they got nothing, so they try to cover those results up with shallow nonsense, to scare people over nothing.

Having now read Bob Woodward's Fear, I am struck by the selective and often misleading portrait it paints of the President and his administration.

Woodward has stood by his reporting despite the White House's response, saying on Sunday that Kelly and Mattis are "not telling the truth" in their denials. Woodward also writes that Trump refused to send any additional aid.

"I'm not because I know what I did and I'm not anxious about it", Trump Jr. said.

"This has not been treated seriously enough, and some of the things Trump did and does to jeopardize the real national security", Woodward warned.

"It's (up to) the Department of Justice to make that determination and we're asking them to look into it", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters. Woodward, however, seemed to shrug the criticism off.

All the President's Men, published in 1974 just before Nixon resigned from the presidency, was made into a film in 1976.

US President Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his friend who told him that the US has got nothing out of Afghanistan, according to Bob Woodward's latest book that hit stores on Tuesday.

Woodward continues to work as an associate editor at the Post, helping expose China's alleged involvement in campaign financing in the 1996 U.S. election.
