Panthers TE Greg Olsen re-fractures right foot

The Falcons (0-1) will see a Panthers (1-0) team that will be without two of their key starters - tight end Greg Olsen and right tackle Daryl Williams - on Sunday.

The team said Tuesday that there are no plans for surgery for Olsen at this time, and he will be evaluated on a monthly basis.

At one end of the locker room, left tackle Matt Kalil stopped in briefly during a break in his rehab for his injured knee. He tore the MCL and dislocated the patella in his right knee in training camp, but fought back to play in the season opener.

Olsen released a statement later Tuesday expressing his disappointment but also his optimism about the future. Wide receivers Devin Funchess and D.J. Moore also might play more prominent roles in the Panthers' offense.

The Panthers drafted rookie tight end Ian Thomas, out of IN, IN the fourth-round this past spring hoping he could develop under the veteran Olsen.

Olsen added that he and the training staff will "re-examine our options this off-season in regard to my foot and our path forward".

"I hope", Manhertz said, "it's not as bad as I think it is". "Unfortunately the last two seasons have not continued that trend".
