As the landfall process started, at least five districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda and Jagatsinghpur are receiving good amount of rainfall coupled with high speed winds under the impact of Titli.

According to data with the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), 3,000 hectares of paddy, 29 hectares of banana crops and 9,000 hectares of vegetable crops were damaged across two mandals in Srikakulam, Jalumuru, Polaki.

Patnaik also asked officials to ensure relief facility in areas likely to be affected by the cyclone.

The districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam were all affected and a total of eight people were reported dead across the state.

Howrah-Mumbai (CSMT) Geetanjali Express, Kharagpur-Villupuram Express, Howrah-Puri Sri Jagannath Express have been rescheduled.

The IMD and the government reiterated tht Cyclone Titli would not hit Vizag but the people, wiser by experience and fearing last-minute turns in the cyclone's path, cancelled non-essential trips, stored water and groceries and stayed home.

A cyclone slammed into India's eastern seaboard on Thursday, destroying huts, uprooting trees, snapping power lines and telephone poles, leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Rain will continue in places around Ranchi till tomorrow, said BK Mandal, Director, IMD, Ranchi.

However, it is believed that major damage has been avoided, partly due to the emergency measures which were put in place before the storm hit.

The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary A P Padhi, SRC B P Sethi, among others.

"There may be flooding of the Vansadhara river as Gajapati and Rayagada districts received heavy rainfall due to the cyclone", he added.

Seawater entered houses in Uppada in East Godavari district as the maximum of the height of the tides was of 10ft along the coast close to the point of landfall.

Loading and unloading of goods from ships remain suspended at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong seaport since Wednesday morning when the storm intensified to a "severe cyclonic storm" over West-Central Bay and the adjoining areas.

Uprooted trees fell on the roads, disrupting vehicular traffic.
