He's An Arsenal Legend - Monaco Star Intrigued By Thierry Henry Possibility

After going down 2-1 at home to Rennes in Ligue 1 on Sunday, they are stuck in the relegation zone and Jardim has now been axed.

Monaco have sacked manager Leonardo Jardim with the club third from bottom of France's Ligue 1.

"I am grateful and proud to have been able to manage Monaco for over four years", Jardim said. I always gave my best and worked with passion.

The Arsenal legend has been learning the tricks of the trade as an assistant to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, but instead of leaping straight into the top job Monaco - remember Gary Neville at Valencia anyone - Henry would be wise to continue his development as an assistant, and who better to work under than his former Gunners gaffer Wenger. "We achieved some great victories together and I'll always keep those memories".

Back in the hazy days of 1987, Henry was appointed Monaco manager, a position he would hold until 1994, winning the league in his debut season and later the Coupe de France.

Monaco Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Vadim Vasilyev acknowledged Jardim's time at the French club as historic.

"His passage will remain as one of the most handsome pages in the history of the club".

Henry has been heavily linked with the post as he looks for his first managerial job, having held talks with Aston Villa before the appointment of Dean Smith as their new manager. "Leonardo will always be part of the family of AS Monaco".

"Reacting to the Henry rumours, the defender was quoted as saying by French sports daily L'Equipe: "[He was] an extraordinary player and a legend at Arsenal.

Jardim took over as Monaco boss in 2014 and led the club to the Ligue 1 title in 2016-17, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League that year.

According to Sky sources, the Villa hierarchy are no longer interested in hiring Henry after the sacking of Steve Bruce earlier in the season.
