Kohli comes out swinging over Test balls

The boost from the Nidahas Cup heroics (in Sri Lanka) has run its course for Dinesh Karthik as Rishabh Pant was named in the squad.

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who last played an ODI over a year ago, was added to the pace attack. As a result of a string of good performances, Rishabh Pant got a much-deserved call-up to the Indian side for the five-match ODI series which begins on October 21 in Guwahati. Virat Kohli is back to lead the side after he missed the Asia Cup 2018 and frontline quick bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested. Jadhav will come back after the first two ODIs, and Pandya will be fit from the second week of November. Pant had hit a scintillating 114 off 146 balls in the final Test match against England at The Oval in September and smashed an 84-ball 92 in the first Test against West Indies at Rajkot. In their place are Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed and Shardul Thakur form India's bowling department. Raina could have been the ideal No.6 batsman who can take up Jadhav's position for the West Indies series. Both played the Asia Cup but were rested for the Test series against Windies.

"Of course Umesh Yadav is also part of our pool and as we are looking at a workload management strategy".

Ravindra Jadeja too keeps his place.

"It's no brainer who is our No. 1 wicketkeeper", Prasad said. "More than the runs he scored, the composure and the body language he showed are the kind of things we look for from a player", Arun said. "We have given a few opportunities to Karthik".

Pacer Siddharth Kaul, who was called up as an injury replacement during the Asia Cup, was also left out.
