As Michael nears landfall, we're sharing all you need to know about the impending storm.

At 2 p.m. Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said Michael had top sustained winds of 110 miles per hour (175 kph).

Now if you're looking at the "skull" and think it looks familiar, that's because this is now the third year in a row where there's been some sort of skull-like face popping up in satellite images from a hurricane hitting the U.S.

"As Hurricane Michael nears landfall, we are working with state and local officials in Florida to take all necessary precautions", Trump said Monday.

Weather Channel meteorologist Stu Ostro shared images a year ago comparing the creepy face sightings from Hurricane Irma in 2017 and Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

Hurricane Michael, now a Category 2 storm, is expected to strike the Florida Panhandle as a Category 3 storm, bringing life-threatening storm surge and rainfall flooding as well as destructive winds. In Escambia County, on the western edge of the Panhandle, evacuations began in Pensacola Beach and other vulnerable areas, but not in Pensacola itself, a city of about 54,000. Forecaster have warned that parts of Florida's Big Bend area could see up to 12 feet of storm surge, while Michael also could dump up to a foot of rain over some Panhandle communities as it moves inland.

Tropical storm warnings are posted from the Alabama/Florida border westward to Alabama's border with MS, as well as from Suwannee River, Florida, to Chassahowitzka, Florida. It could be the strongest hurricane to hit the Florida panhandle in recorded history.

Florida has had more hurricanes in October than in any other month. "Take care of them", Scott said.

"We will probably evacuate to like Alabama or wherever we can go to be safe", she said. "But don't let this storm catch you with your guard down".

Scott said some places could experience a storm surge of between eight and 12 feet of water as Michael blows ashore.

The hurricane's peak winds were at 145kmh as it moved north-north west at 19kmh.

Both NOAA and Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft have flown through the hurricane's four quadrants - and the NHC says, "The planes actually passed through the eye around the same time [Tuesday morning], and reported that they could see one another".

North Carolina is expected to feel impacts from Michael late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Florida Fish and Wildlife has put 40 additional law enforcement officers on notice to deploy with a variety of special equipment, including boats that can be used for high-water rescues.

Hurricane Michael continues to gain strength as it moves through the southern Gulf of Mexico.
