Trump 'not satisfied' with Saudi explanations of Khashoggi death

The news comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded Saudi officials reveal the whereabouts of Khashoggi's remains, after the Saudi government admitted Khashoggi had been murdered, albeit in a "fist fight" with officials inside the consulate in Istanbul.

Germany is the world's fourth-largest arms exporter to Saudi Arabia, after the USA, the United Kingdom, and France, Politico reported.

Chancellor Angela Merkel signalled Sunday that Germany will suspend exports of military equipment to Saudi Arabia, and U.K. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt promised to take "serious" measures against the kingdom once an investigation is complete. We also have a trading partnership that supports thousands of jobs.

'So whilst we will be thoughtful and considered in our response, I have also been clear that if the appalling stories we are reading turn out to be true, they are fundamentally incompatible with our values and we will act accordingly'.

Mr Hunt said he had been in talks with European Union partners to "extend the sanctions regime to individuals for human rights violations".

Meanwhile, Dmitriev, the head of Russia's Direct Investment Fund, said Khashoggi's killing needed to be investigated and the culprits punished, but that the Saudi drive for economic and social reform could not be ignored.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and critic of the Saudi government, disappeared after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to obtain documents for his marriage. He was, however, declared dead by Saudi Arabia after two weeks of denial about any information on his disappearance.

Turkey is conducting a separate investigation into the journalist's death.

At the time, Crown Prince Mohammed spoke on stage alongside Stephen Schwarzman of USA private equity firm Blackstone.

Turkish officials have alleged that Khashoggi was tortured and dismembered inside the consulate.

The Saudi journalist can be seen holding hands with Turkish fiancee Hatice Cengiz, as they visit the local marriage office and enter their apartment block in the hours leading up to his fatal visit to the consulate.

Al-Awwad said the Cabinet lauded the directive of King Salman to set up a ministerial committee, headed by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, to restructure the Presidency of General Intelligence, modernize its regulations and define its powers in a precise manner, in order to ensure its proper functioning and determine its responsibilities.

"These are hard days for us in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".

Of the Saudi Government, she said: "If the allegations are true, and Jamal has been murdered by the errand boys of Mohammed bin Salman, he is already a martyr". Saudi Arabia's stock index was down 1.3 per cent in late trading on persistent investor concern.
