Brexit deal latest: Tory Chief Whip ‘CONFIDENT’ deal will get through Parliament

Cabinet ministers gathered for their weekly meeting on Tuesday morning, where Prime Minister Theresa May provided an update on the current state of Brexit negotiations.

The UK's representative at the meeting, Brexit minister Martin Callanan, also suggested more time is needed to conclude a deal.

The Northern Irish DUP, which supports the minority Conservative government, is reported to be "absolutely furious" about the deal, considering it a surrender of sovereignty.

Tory Europhiles led by arch-Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg have also threatened to vote down the deal which they have dubbed BRINO - "Brexit in Name Only".

If a deal really is to be brokered this week then the suspicion has to be that the prime minister is deliberately taking it down to the wire in order to force her Cabinet into agreement.

Officials have said for weeks that agreement on divorce terms and a framework for future UK-EU relations was 95 per cent complete, and for several days negotiators have been meeting late into the night in Brussels in a bid to close the remaining gaps.

It also provides for additional "deeper" provisions for Northern Ireland on customs and regulations, RTE said.

In the poll, the majority across Ireland said the United Kingdom should not proceed with Brexit if it meant a hard border on the island.

"If you are being prudent you make sure you have got some insurance policies in place and one of those insurance policies.is just getting our house in order at the WTO".

Britain will formally split away from the other 27 European Union nations on March 29, even if no final agreement clears all the hurdles both in the Britain and the EU. The UK would also have to continue following numerous European Union rules in areas like the environment, employee protections and state aid.

Speaking after the European Commission sat in Strasbourg, deputy head Frans Timmermans said a Brexit deal with Britain was the bloc's preferred solution. "We are not commenting further on leaks in the media." .

Mr Corbyn added: "Labour has been clear from the beginning that we need a deal to support jobs and the economy - and that guarantees standards and protections". Ministers will reportedly be allowed to see the key papers on the deal, but not allowed to take them home. Negotiators are still engaged and a number of issues are outstanding.

Brexit talks with the European Union ran through Sunday night until 0245 and resumed on Monday morning.

The pound rallied on news of a deal, rising 1.5 percent against the dollar to $1.3038.

A review mechanism is understood to be part of the text, but it is unclear whether that would meet the demands of Tory Brexiteers - including some in the Cabinet - who want the United Kingdom to be able to unilaterally walk away from the deal to prevent it becoming a permanent settlement. There will be particular focus on those who have laid down red lines in public, such as Andrea Leadsom and Penny Mordaunt. Some EU diplomats said they didn't have high hopes of a breakthrough this week.

When asked if he believed it was possible a deal could be secured in the next 24 or 48 hours, he replied it is "still possible but not at all definite, I think pretty much sums it up".

Cabinet ministers were summoned to Downing Street individually on Tuesday evening to be briefed on the draft text.
