The girl's biological parents were with her in court.

Twelve members of a Wisconsin Girl Scout troop, including seven children and fie adults, had been picking up trash in a ditch along the highway as part of a service project Saturday when a black pick-up truck driven by Treu "veered out of its lane" and crossed the center line, leaving the road entirely and entering the ditch where the Girl Scouts were working, hitting five of them, police said.

State law required the matter, at least initially, to be held in adult court, Newell explained. She said this photo was taken shortly before the crash that took the life of her 9-year-old daughter, Jayna.

Prosecutors say first responders were called October 30 to a licensed home day care near Chippewa Falls.

KWQC reported the girl was living at the foster home which also served as a daycare centre in the town of Wheaton. A judge set bond at $50,000.

Her granddaughter, 10-year-old Haylee Hickle, was among the three young Girl Scouts who were struck and killed while picking up trash along a road this weekend, police said.

After the bleeding infant was discovered, he was rushed to a local hospital, then flown to a children's hospital in St Paul, where he died. He was pronounced dead November 1, according to the Tribune.

"Later that afternoon, the sheriff's department received a call from medical personnel, a doctor, attending this youth and his belief was that the injuries sustained by the 6-month-old boy were not an accident", Kowalczyk said, according to KTLA sister station WITI in Milwaukee.

"I feel so bad for the little girls that had to be here for this", Judy Schneider said.

Treu made his first court appearance Monday and has another hearing scheduled for Tuesday, when prosecutors are expected to formally charge him.

"She would like to return home, and given her age, that may be appropriate", Harless said.

Lake Hallie police said the 21-year-old pickup driver, Colten Treu, and a passenger told investigators they had been huffing just before striking the Girl Scout troop.

"It's not such a good morning for Chippewa County", Kowalczyk said to open a news conference about both matters.
