F1 chasing 'array of options' if Silverstone goes

"Firstly, we want to preserve the heritage races, they are very important to Formula 1 and they are very important to fans".

F1's draft calendar for next year does not include any new races, although it is set for the latest finish to a season since 1963 - the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place in the first week of December.

The first Hanoi Grand Prix will be staged in 2020, Formula One boss Chase Carey confirmed Wednesday as he laid out plans to expand motorsport's premier championship in Asia.

"If you look at the last two races you will see that we kind of struggled, so I don't really have an idea of how it is going to be in the next couple of races", he said.

Silverstone, host of the inaugural World Championship race in 1950, has been a permanent fixture on the calendar since 1987, having previously alternated with Brands Hatch.

"We are excited to see that our work with Formula 1 to secure this deal has finally come to fruition", Viet Quang said.

Vietnam announced last week it will host the race in its communist capital from April 2020, becoming only the third Southeast Asian nation to host the Formula One after Malaysia and Singapore.

Bratches reiterated earlier statements from Liberty Media about wanting more street races which they feel allows them to bring F1 closer to the people. We'll continue to develop those options, and make sure we are able to make the best decisions for fans and for racing and for us as a business.

"We are a public company and we have a lot of stakeholders and shareholders and we're trying to marry what's best for fans with running a successful business".

The Hanoi race will be run on a 5.565-kilometer layout in the west of the city, adding another street race to the existing ones in Monaco, Singapore, Azerbaijan and Melbourne's Albert Park in Australia.

Bratches explains that Liberty's vision for races are down to three separate categories, and that Vietnam would not impact the toes of heritage races such as Silverstone.

Although the size of that year's calendar is now unconfirmed, F1 hopes the season will include a street race in Miami after the planned 2019 edition was postponed.
