Former Browns Coach Hue Jackson Has Landed A New Job

Former Browns Coach Hue Jackson Has Landed A New Job

Jackson was hired as head coach of the Browns in 2016.

The Cincinnati Bengals have hired Jackson to join Marvin Lewis' coaching staff less than two weeks after he was sacked as the head coach of Cincinnati's in-state and AFC North rival, the Cleveland Browns.

Jackson was the Bengals" wide receivers coach from 2004 to "06, secondary assistant and special-teams coach in 2012, running backs coach in 2013 and offensive coordinator from 2014 to '15.

Obviously, Jackson's resumè doesn't exactly do him many favors. Jackson contributed to a lot of Browns losses, and presumably the Bengals are hoping Jackson helps Cleveland lose two more this season.

The former Browns coach is set to visit with the Bengals and will soon join Marvin Lewis' staff, according to a report from NFL Network, which cites unidentified league sources.

The two men talk nearly every week on the phone and often speak glowingly of each other, which is why it was speculated that Jackson could end up in Cincinnati again after he was sacked in Cleveland on October 29.

Lewis, who rose the coaching ranks on the defensive side of the football, was asked Monday how he intends to do to fill the void created by Austin's termination beyond absorbing the defensive responsibilities himself. He was the Bengals' offensive coordinator before becoming Browns head coach, but Bengals offensive coordinator Bill Lazor has done a good job calling plays this season.

Jackson has already had two separate stints as a Bengals' assistant. Jackson spent two-plus seasons with this team, and can basically read them Cleveland's entire playbook.

This week, the Bengals play in Baltimore.

If anything, this could give Jackson a chance to get revenge on the Browns for firing him, even though that was pretty inevitable.
