Google Brings an API to Let Developers Push In-App Updates

The second option is a flexible update that allows the user to continue using the app while the update continues in progress.

Google revealed at its Android Dev Summit this week that developers will be able to use the new In-app Updates API to create an immediate or flexible in-app update process, which either forces or nudges a user to update an app. Along with users, App developers will also benefit from the latest In-app updates API. The prompt comes when the user starts an app, they must update it before using it.

It's a win for users who don't want to be bothered with the nuisance of updating as well as a win for developers, who want you using the latest version of their app.

Anyway, given its success-the app is used by over 30 million users each month-Google is rebranding Files Go to Files by Google.

Android's announcement of its Foldables technology was also a summit highlight, with the company highlighting its support for the forthcoming Samsung device that was previewed this week by Samsung Senior Vice President Justin Denison at the 2018 Samsung Developer Conference.

Google's new contract for Android vendors that want its core apps aims to bring the industry in line with Samsung's security patching model. But this is about to change, now that Google is introducing a new API for Android. Google hasn't announced an official date that it will get wide release but said the API will be available to all developers soon.
