Las Vegas massacre survivor Telemachus Orfanos dies in Borderline Bar shooting

Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean told reporters Thursday that Long had served in Afghanistan.

A gunman opened fire on a crowd of mostly college students and young adults dancing at a crowded country and western bar in a suburb of Los Angeles late on Wednesday night, killing 12 people including a sheriff's deputy, police said.

He first fired on a person working the door, then appeared to shoot at random at people inside, they said. He loved fishing in the Sierra Nevada mountains with his son. It was holding its weekly country music and dance night at the time of the shooting.

This undated photo provided by former Fox News correspondent Adam Housley and his wife, actress Tamera Mowry-Housley, shows their niece, Alaina Housley, a Pepperdine University freshman who was among those killed in the Wednesday shooting at the Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Sheriff's Sergeant Ron Helus and a passing highway patrolman arrived at the Borderline around 11.20pm in response to several 911 calls, heard gunfire and went inside, the sheriff said.

'As soon as I heard the shots I knew exactly what was going on, ' Wennerstrom said.'I turned and saw a dark figure, and made a decision to get out of there as soon as I could'.

After a man fatally shot 11 worshipers at a Pittsburgh synagogue last month, U.S. President Donald Trump said their deaths could have been prevented if an armed guard had been stationed inside the temple.

Dean told reporters Thursday, "I've learned it doesn't matter what community you're in...."

"All of a sudden we heard the "bang, bang" of the gunshots and it just started going insane and people were pushing".

People comfort each other as they stand near the scene, November 8, 2018, in Thousand Oaks, Calif. where a gunman opened fire Wednesday inside a country dance bar crowded with hundreds of people.

The FBI was carefully examining Thursday the auto and home of the gunman who killed 12 people at a bar in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

"Ask anyone on the (Coronado) island who knows this kid and they'll say nothing short of how great a guy he is", Sefa-Boakye said.

An American flag hung on the garage at Long's home on Thursday as law enforcement gathered outside. "There is a lot of bad in this world, but there is also a lot of good and people will help", she said.

Kuredjian said at around 0915 GMT (5pm Singapore time) that the shooter was still confined inside the premises, adding that he did not know if he had been subdued or shot.

The officer was on the phone to his wife when the emergency call came in, telling her: "Hey I gotta go handle a call. I ran to the nearest exit and tripped and fell on the way and people kept running on top of me". He was a student at California State University, Northridge, majoring in athletic training from 2013 to 2016, but he did not graduate, university representative Carmen Ramos Chandler said.

"There's people that live a whole lifetime without seeing this, and then there's people that have seen it twice", he said.

Jasmin Alexander, who was with around 15 friends at the bar, said there was chaos and confusion inside when shots rang out.

"It looked like he knew what he was doing", Whitler told KABC-TV. Police and firefighters lined the highways and saluted as a hearse carried his body from a hospital to the country coroner's office.

Helus had served for 29 years in the sheriff's office and was soon planning to retire, The Washington Post reports.
