Loyal pup waits for dead owner for more than 80 days

In an interview by Pear Video, a taxi driver who drives through that particular street every day shared how the dog's owner died in a auto accident on Aug 21 this year.

Video capturing the devoted dog standing guard patiently in the middle of the busy road has been viewed almost six million times, making the pooch an overnight star.

A faithful dog has been waiting for more than 80 days by a busy Chinese highway after its owner died there. Since then, this dog has appeared here, no matter what the weather, no matter how many cars, it always stays here. As seen in the footage, the dog is very skittish when approached by strangers, which makes the situation risky for the dog.

He said: "Drivers often give the little dog bits of food, but when we get out, he goes away". However, it always returns to the same spot, the taxi driver told news agency China News.

The video was put up on popular Chinese website Weibo and has been viewed over 1.4 million times.

'I'm in tears!' another said.

One person wrote on site Weibo: 'Sometimes dogs are more faithful than humans, really. "My family used to have a dog and every day it would wait for me by the village school".

Local charity Blue Hada is now reaching out to the dog owner's family, according to Daily Mail.

Dogs (or animals, in general) amaze us every day because of stories like this and we only hope that the aforementioned loyal friend will find a loving home at the end of the day.

According to China News, a local charity organisation is attempting to contact the owner's family and will rehome the dog if they are unable to do so.

The story became legend and a statue of Hachiko was erected in the dog's memory in front of Shibuya Station, where every day hundreds of people have their photograph taken with it.
