Magic Johnson puts pressure on Luke Walton after Lakers' slow start

Lakers president Magic Johnson reportedly met with coach Luke Walton on Tuesday after the trip, admonishing Walton for the slow start to the season, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Acquiring a player widely considered to be the best in the business in LeBron James and having the face of the Lakers, Magic Johnson, running the front office has brought an air of pressure that the young players haven't experienced.

"Johnson's aggressive meeting tone circulated to individuals throughout the organization, including to principal owner Jeanie Buss", ESPN reported, citing sources.

Walton however played down any suggestion that his job could be at risk in comments to reporters on Friday.

"If they need help to shoot I'll coach them".

"Whenever we go on a losing streak there's going to be stories out there and distractions", Walton said.

Walton rebuffed the reports today saying that his relationship with management was "great". This is something that we do all the time.

Walton, meanwhile, reiterated that despite the fanfare surrounding the arrival of James, rebuilding the Lakers after years of mediocrity - they have not reached the playoffs since 2013 - would take time. "We knew it was going to be like that from the summer when 'Zo had the knee surgery".

"Obviously, we had the unexpected one when we had the suspensions, so we had a lineup change there".

"But that's the National Basketball Association".
