MI voters to decide on recreational marijuana, anti-gerrymandering, voting options

Fracking. Oil and gas interests in Colorado expressed relief after voters rejected Proposition 112, which would have required oil and gas wells to be located at least half a mile away from homes and other occupied buildings, the Denver Business Journal reports.

Before Tuesday's vote, 22 American states had adopted comprehensive medical marijuana programs. The amendment exempts those convicted of sex offences and murder. An Arkansas measure will raise the wage from $8.50 an hour to $11 by 2021; Missouri's will gradually raise the $7.85 minimum wage to $12 an hour. Most were drafted by state legislatures, but 64 resulted from citizen-initiated campaigns, including numerous most eye-catching proposals.

USA efforts to legalize recreational marijuana use saw mixed results on Tuesday, as voters in MI approved a measure legalizing the drug while North Dakotans looked set to block it.

Three U.S. states are on track to loosen laws governing the use of recreational and medicinal marijuana as the world's largest economy continues to increasingly liberalize cannabis usage.

The measure passed by a 56-44 percent margin. Possession of marijuana by minors would be treated the same as possession of alcohol. So far California is the only state to approve a legalization initiative that addressed the lingering collateral consequences of a marijuana conviction, and even that measure put the onus on victims of prohibition to seek expungement or resentencing (although a law enacted last month will make the process easier).

Proposal 2 was backed by the Voters Not Politicians group. But Republican state Rep. Matt Fridy has said he wrote the measure with the Supreme Court's conservative majority in mind. That's right: We're now as radical as Canada.

In West Virginia, the state's constitution will be amended to say that "nothing in this constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or funding of abortion".

North Dakota approved a measure to redefine who is a qualified elector to say "only a citizen".

Alabama OK'd displaying the ten commandments on state property.

Permit retail sales of marijuana and edibles subject to a 10% tax, dedicated to implementation costs, clinical trials, schools, roads, and municipalities where marijuana businesses are located.
