This is the second Silver Slugger Award for Betts, who also represented Boston in 2016 as an outfielder.

Abreu joins Carlton Fisk (1981,1985, 1988), Frank Thomas (1991, 1993-'94, 2000), Magglio Ordoñez (2000, 2002) and Alexei Ramírez (2010, 2014) as the White Sox players to win multiple Silver Slugger awards in franchise history.

In 2018, Betts led the majors in batting average (.346) and slugging percentage (.640), becoming the first Red Sox player to accomplish that feat since Williams in 1957.
